Tornio celebrating 405 years! 🎉
On Saturday, Hallituskatu pedestrian street filled with people, music and celebration as Tornio’s 405th anniversary was celebrated together.
Locals, families and visitors gathered to enjoy the atmosphere, live performances and a spring day in the city centre. 🤍
The celebration also featured Outokumpu Stainless, marking its own 50-year journey in Tornio.

Tornio Days 2026 | May 9-16 🎉
Tornio Days is a yearly city celebration held in early May, and in 2026, it’s extra special as Tornio turns 405 years.
During the week, you’ll find events of all sizes happening around the city. It’s a celebration built together by locals, open for everyone to join and enjoy.
Main celebration – Tornio405 (May 9, 11:00–15:00) On Saturday, the celebration takes over Hallituskatu pedestrian street.
The day includes:
🎶 Live performances, including Mira Sunnari and children’s duo Hulabaloo
🏆 City awards and scholarships
🤍 A relaxed, local atmosphere that reflects the people of Tornio
The event also features Outokumpu Stainless, celebrating its 50-year journey.
Exhibition & lecture at the museum:
At the Tornionlaakso Museum, you can explore the exhibition “50 Years of Stainless Steel from Tornio”, showcasing the history of the steel factory through photos and videos from the 1970s to today.
A lecture by Pekka Erkkilä on May 9 about the history of the Tornio steel plant.
